REDUCTION OF Cd, Pb AND Ni LEACHING FROM CONTAMINATED SOILS BY IMMOBILIZATION

چکیده
This paper discusses the results of Cd, Pb and Ni immobilization using cement. Soil contamination levels were in the range 500 mg/kg to 5,000 rug/kg. and cement ratios were in the range 3% to 18%. The process was highly effective in minimizing the leaching of tested heavy metals. The measured leaching reduction results were as follows: 76% to more than 96% for Pb; 30% to more than 99% for Cd; and 41% to more than 80% for Ni. Leaching was measured using the Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP). Treatment resulted in reducing the leaching of metals to below the TCLP hazardous concentration limits, specified by the United States Environmental Protection Agency, USEPA.

Immobilization of heavy metals in polluted soils by the addition of zeolitic material synthesized from coal fly ash.
The use of zeolitic material synthesized from coal fly ash for the immobilization of pollutants in contaminated soils was investigated in experimental plots in the Guadiamar Valley (SW Spain). This area was affected by a pyrite slurry spill in April 1998. Although reclamation activities were completed in a few months, residual pyrite slurry mixed with soil accounted for relatively high leachabl...
متن کاملRangeland Plants Potential for Phytoremediation of Contaminated Soils with Lead, Zinc, Cadmium and Nickel (Case Study: Rangelands around National Lead & Zinc Factory, Zanjan, Iran)
There are many remediating methods for the polluted soils but only phytoremediation is a cost effective, environmental friendly, aesthetically pleasing approach that is most suitable for many countries. The purpose of this study was to investigate the potential of native plants for phytoremediation of contaminated soils with lead, zinc, cadmium and nickel in the rangelands around National Lead ...

Background and Objective: Heavy metals fixation in-situ by using inorganic amendments is a method for immobilization of polluted soils. The goal of this research was to determine efficiency of five amendments for heavy metals fixation of waste-water-irrigated soils around Tabriz city. Materials and Methods: Cadmium, Pb, Cu, Ni, and Zn- containing solutions were added to 0.5 gram of five amendm...
متن کاملThe characterization of total and leachable metals in foundry molding sands.
Waste molding sands from the foundry industry have been successfully used as a component in manufactured soils, but concern over metal contamination must be addressed before many states will consider this beneficial use. Since there is little data available on this topic, the purpose of this study was to characterize total and leachable metals from waste molding sands. A total elemental analysi...
